Three months after her birth, a German counsellor and his wife adopted Rami. Nadine Dreher did volunteer work in the orphanages while her husband worked with the governments. The couple had been trying for years but failed. Nadine was sterile. In 1987, Josef became the mayor of Munich. Rami was being homeschooled at first which was really rare. As soon as they were established, she was tested and placed in school. Her father progressed this position which he had been aiming for chancellor of Germany. Her mother kept with charitable work with the European countries which helped with international diplomacy. Rami spent more time with her uncle than her own parents. He trained her to control her anger and learned how to fight. He was apart of the GSG 9, and everything he was training recruits he was teaching her. She learned her surroundings and became a mouse, always sneaking up on whoever was around for practice. Her uncle said the best fighter could never be seen or heard. She knows better than to ask questions, but her uncle took her in and went into the army as soon as Germany allowed females to do so. All of her training with firearms and combat gave Rami an advantage. Only a handful of females went into basic training, but only two made it. Her uncle became the Brigadier General in 2003, but he was also corrupt. She had learned about this the hard way because he did things that were off book. Rami heard phone calls, and the man she knew was now disappearing. The training she had to go through was tougher than anything she had ever done. It was brutal. She almost didn't want to continue, but she couldn't give up. Not now. She did training in the US, Norway, and Austria. Each had different terrains that she had to adjust to. She was assigned to a certain xyz coalition force in Iraq and Afghanistan, but her uncle had her do other assignments while on this force. Rami always leaves a blue ribbon on her victims. It is her favorite color and also was Nadine's too. One thing that made her feel close to her mother was that color. One mission that she had to do was destroy evidence before a team found it. She planted a bomb before the mission took place. The client was anonymous, but her uncle told her that it had to be done. She knows of her birth parents and visited them after she got out of the military. Apart of her still craved the fighting, her lust for it could not be caged. Every other month now, Rami sends money to them so they are living off rubbish. Apart of her wants to be upset with them for leaving her at the monastery. It is hard not to because she has had such a good life now. Her uncle got a hold of her and she does off the book assignments for him. She moved to the US for a mission that took longer than expected, but couldn't leave SF at all. She became bound and started fighting for sport and professionally. She currently is a MMA fighter. On the side, she does her extracurricular activities which are very hush hush. She goes out on all cost to not fail. Now she is based out of California and works from here until she is called out. 
Little is known about Mystique's past due to the fact that she can eliminate the outward signs of aging with her shapeshifing; it is not known exactly how old she is. She apparently learned to use her powers at a very early age which made her family fear her, for there is no evidence known to the public or the government that Raven Darkholme ever looked like anything but a normal human being.
According to Mystique herself her powers manifested when she was twelve years old and she had to fight just to survive. Can psionically alter the formation of her biological cells at will. As a result she can cause herself to look and sound like an exact duplicate of any human, humanoid, or semi-humanoid being of either sex, wearing virtually any kind of clothing. Her control is so exact that she can precisely duplicate another persons retina pattern in her own eyes, finger, palm and skin-pore patterns on her own hands and skin, smell to overlap the original being, and vocal cords to match voices to the point of corresponding voice prints. While she can make herself look exactly like a person who is physically bigger than herself, she will not weigh as much as the real person does.[48] Although she can maintain the form of a person of her height, weight, and build indefinitely, the longer that she maintains the form of a person physically bigger than herself, the greater the strain she feels. Mystique was once exposed to dangerous levels of radiation in order to save the life of Toad. Examples of this new ability included: night vision, wings on her back, talons in her fingers, sharp fanged teeth, natural body armor, mermaid-like tail, and she could even compress nearly two-dimensional like a rolling pin to glide on air currents, similar to Mr. Fantastic, which she used to survive an explosion. Since her resurrection by The Hand, her powers have been enhanced to a higher level than they were before, to the degree that she could fool super-humanly acute senses such as Wolverine's sense of smell, something she couldn't do before her death. Nick Fury's intel classified her as power level 8, while the O*N*E stated that she was a Severe Threat. According to Prosh, her Comparative Mutagenic Power Register was of 8.3.
Originally, it was clearly stated that Mystique's powers were limited to appearances only; as she could not assume the powers of the people she morphed into or alter her body to adapt to different situations.
